Each asana is studied and performed together with a certain breathing sequence, awareness of the chakras and repetition of the mantra, to end with a relaxation process that includes pranayama.
For this reason, we recognize that few exercises compare to surya namaskara when it comes to being holistic.
It is more than a series of physical exercises. Although it stretches, tones, stimulates and massages all the muscles, vital organs and different parts of the body by alternating forward and backward bends, it also has the depth of a spiritual practice, carried down to us from the times of the vedic sages.
This practice consists of three elements: form, energy, and rhythm. The twelve postures create the physical matrix around which the practice develops. These postures generate prana or subtle energy, which activates the psychic body, which, when performed in a constant and rhythmic sequence, becomes a transforming force in our mind/body complex that leads us to achieve a fuller and more active life.
